History
The decade of light-heartedness ended and Raf melancholy sang “What will remain of these 80s” while two strong arms scratched with the hoe the piece of uncultivated land handed down by the ancestors to be able to plant the riparian cuttings x rupestris 420A suitable for receiving the precious gems of Greco di Tufo. Here, like a film already seen, the brothers Roberto and Teresa Bruno had decided that it was necessary to start from their roots, no brains on the run, no arms torn from agriculture, everything had to flow in the time of rebirth. “My Way, A modo mio” is the phrase that, at a certain point in life, a young man screams between his teeth, this will be our little homeland “Poetelia” for the Greeks “Petilia” for descendants.
After all, no sacrifice is made to live in one of the most beautiful places in the world: majestic mountains covered with greenery and snow, open hills that gently sway towards the perennial rivers of Vellola and Sabato that open vast plateaus to the east. The rhythms of nature melt the blood in the veins; like San Gennaro, and give strength and hope to those who sow dreams and do not keep them in the drawer. Between work and fun the last decade of the millennium slips, founding the foundations of the company with the purchase of land, plowing and planting of new vines that grow pampered by patient hands and, in the small cellar of the grandfather, fermentation was experimented, first in barrels of local chestnut, then making room for new materials and techniques that respect the integrity of the product. In 1999, the first cellar was set up, enrolled in the register of winemakers and fermented all the Greco di Tufo grapes produced from their own vineyards: the Petilia Farm was born.
The new millennium brings with it profound changes: the collapse of the twin towers, the end of the Lira, new EU rules, competition from countries such as Chile, South Africa and Australia plunge Southern Italy into a grip of malaise and mistrust, but whoever holds homeland does not chiagne and like mules under the yoke they plant their feet and the earth turns. In 2002 the Greek became DOCG and we took the band n1, in 2003, in that of Campofiorito, we began the works of the current cellar which will end in 2006.Thanks to the new spaces we are also dedicated to the vinification of the Fiano di Avellino, Falanghina, Aglianico and Taurasi. Over time, the space for the Tonneaux and the bottles to be refined becomes increasingly limited, so the barrel cellar and the vault are restructured. With the vineyards of Falanghina, Aglianico and Fiano, we complete the Irpinia offer and, in 2014, we built the last wing of the company in order to rationalize the aging and labeling phases of the bottles.
And here we are in the twenties, stormy as never before, the delicate thread that held the sword of Damocles yields and again the world plunges into fear. In spring the undeterred daisies open to the new sun and the daffodils and cyclamens and wild roses and down the violets perfume the fresh waters of the valley…. everything flows “Panta rhei” So taking a cue from Greek philosophy, we do not let ourselves go but we decide to strengthen the walls and we are renovating the farmhouse and the bed and breakfast to be ready to share our next adventure with friends of the earth.
