Chianche località Quattro Venti
Chianche locality Quattro Venti
4 ha of Greco di Tufo
Vigna Quattroventi, a stone’s throw away along the river, until a few years ago, smoked the ancient limestone that cooked the stones dug on site to extract large quantities of lime, the result of prehistoric shell deposits that crowded the now well-known ocean of Thetis. Over these rocks, dozens and dozens of meters of sandstone are stratified, at first dispersed in the limestones and then increasingly pure and inert, symbol of an ERA devoid of forms of life of brackish origin.
Clusters of sulphurous plinths peep out up the hill which, here too, testify to the formation of an ancient lake. In the eras closest to us, and therefore at ground level, Chianchetelle presents the wounds of repeated volcanic explosions interpreted by the tuff leaps and covered with black lapilli of Vesuvius, the last eruption traced certainly around 3000 BC, called DI AVELLINO
